NAUS American program is student-centered and offers a broad-based program from early childhood to high school falling into four strands.

   
           
    Kindergarten Years [KG1 and KG 2]    
    Primary Years [Grade 1- Grade 6]    
    Middle Years [Grade 7- Grade 8]    
    High School Years [Grade 9 – Grade 12]

An enormous amount of learning takes place in the first few years of life, and it is at this time that the greatest care must be taken to ensure that learning and development happen in the right direction. The NAUS KG program underpins all future learning by supporting and fostering in students:

 

  • personal, social and emotional well-being
  • a positive attitude towards learning
  • attention skills and the quality of perseverance, language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills
  • an appreciation, knowledge and understanding of the world about them sound physical and creative development.
   
   

 

Primary Years  [Grades 1-5]

   
   

The NAUS primary years’ program aims to lay a solid base of learning at the elementary stage.  At this stage the program supports a co-operative approach to enquiry and problem-solving through interaction. It also attempts to develop a knowledge and understanding of the world.

This is a time of transition, physically, social-emotionally and intellectually. At this stage the emphasis is on building pupils self esteem and confidence and to encourage them to become independent. Pupils will follow a common curriculum, providing a broad-based education with which to proceed into further studies in High School.

It will also enhance the intellectual and creative potential, personal confidence and social competence and physical and social well- being of the pupil. Students are given opportunity to make choices and accept responsibility for their actions and decisions.

       The first section of the Student Handbook includes these items for your reflection. These are followed by listing of our curriculum guides for all subjects. The course description is clearly indicated for the high school years.

 

The remainder of the handbook is focused on the rules, policies and guidelines that students must follow in order to be successful and remain in good standing at NAUS. Parents and students must sign and return the last page in order for students to continue at NAUS.

ASSESSMENTS

   
    Students up to Grade 4 will have continuous assessments in the form of quizzers, oral tests and short written tests, Class room discussions, debates and projects will be conducted regularly.    
         
    For Grade 6 - 12, assessments will take the form of quizzes, oral tests, short written tests, assignments, class room discussion, debates, projects, journals and laboratory work. In addition to these on-going assessments, there will be mid-year and year-end exams.

The assessment criteria are detailed below. This is the broad structure. However, changes may be made by the teacher in charge depending on the subject.
